The Summer of Projects

When we think of summer, visions of backyard bar-b-ques, late night bonfires, spending time outdoors, summer vacations, ice cream cones and watermelons all come to mind. I love the laid-back and relaxed schedule with late dinners and late-night movies. But, sadly for me, this was not quite that kind of summer. In fact, it felt like a continuation of the busyness of the school year. We helped our oldest complete his Eagle Scout project (pictured left), built a new deck (with a contractor…we aren’t that handy), cleared out brush in our yard, cut down some trees and we’re currently working on the back patio that was torn out so the new deck could go up. I just felt like we haven’t had a chance to breathe and now we’re in the midst of marching band season and the new school year. Halloween is only 5 weeks away and right on its heels is Thanksgiving and Christmas – sorry, I said the “C” holiday. And while I enjoy this time of year, I feel like time is being rushed, that I’m not able to stop and enjoy the moments. Plus this year is my first year having a senior in high school. I want to make every effort to enjoy these “first last moments”, and, hopefully, not miss anything. Because, while this is an exciting time, it is also really overwhelming. There are senior shout outs (football and marching band), senior portraits, diploma name verification, cap and gown measurements and more! So thank you, my friends and family, for being my rock while I’m internally a little bit of an emotional mess. And for my mom friends who have already experienced senior year craziness – thank you for your knowledge and compassion! Go class of 2024!!!
